Sugar Sugar...oh yes PLEASE!

Ever find yourself craving sugar? You're lying if you said no:) I find myself craving it EVERY SINGLE time I walk by my co-workers desk who has chocolate kisses and chocolate covered potato chips sitting on her desk for all to partake in. I love her, but that is just mean:) Talk about things that should be illegal in the cubicle world...chocolate covered potato chips tops that list for me! Salty...mmmm...sweet....mmmmm...BUT because neither the chocolate kisses nor chocolate covered potato chips are on my meal plan for the day (any day) and I don't typically leave a single calorie unaccounted for, I walk by them. ...salivating while I walk away, but I walk away...

So, how do you avoid these sometimes seemingly impossible to avoid cravings? Start by planning your meals and knowing how many calories you have to "play" with for the day. By doing this you will stay committed to yourself. When you don't give in you will be proud of yourself! How many of you have had those moments of weakness and given in to the temptation and then said, "AHHHH screw it! I already messed up, mine as well go for the gusto and start over tomorrow..." NO! Have a plan. Stick to it. Period. End of discussion.

Next, to avoid eating the whole tray of Rice Crispie Treats ;) WALK AWAY! Get occupied doing something else. Grab a piece of fruit to satisfy that sweet tooth. Another trick; pop a piece of gum in your mouth. That is my go to trick; gum! Sometimes too much. Remember, gum has calories too and they all count...about 5 calories per slice!

Again, if you are eating 5 times throughout the day, you are less likely to feel that sugar low. So, eat healthy snacks regularly. Have a carb and a protein at every meal. I'm telling you, it works. Trust me. It works. Have I mentioned that IT WORKS?!

Today...

Breakfast: Nature's Path Raisin Oatmeal mixed with good 'ole water and 1 medium banana. Also, had my 12 oz coffee with skim milk and 2 sugar packets...I prefer regular sugar as opposed to the fake stuff. I used to drink 5 yes 5 of the yellow packet fakey fake stuff in each coffee...until I did some research on what is actually IN that fakey fake stuff (the pink, blue and yellow fakey fake stuff)...do some research on it...your body and your organs will thank you. (Total: 318 calories)

Snack: Luna Peppermint Bar (170 calories)

Lunch: Amy's Organic Spinach and Feta Wrap w/ medium orange (Total: 322 calories)

Snack: Wallaby yogurt (150 calories)

Dinner: Stir fry with low sodium soy sauce, zucchini, summer squash, eggplant, water chestnuts tomato, and chicken breast (342 calories) also had a vanilla porter beer because (like I mentioned in a previous post) this week has been torture and perhaps it's a full moon thing, but people are simply NASTY (beer: 180 calories)

TOTAL for the day: 1482 woot woot!!

Quote of the day: "You are not a dog. Don't reward yourself with food" ~Unknown~

Now, that's not to say you can't enjoy a nice beverage or a chocolate covered potato chip every now and again, but you should account for these things to remain on track. So, how do you reward yourself? Is it with food? If so, change that way of thinking...fast!

My personal goal is to get down to 140-145 by the end of the Dr. Oz challenge in April. (Have you signed up yet?) http://sharecare.doctoroz.com/?r=a5ppdq17ib5y7efi6xy6iicuoo&t=f If (WHEN) I get there, Matt and I will be going out to western MA to the Cranwell Resort http://www.cranwell.com/?src=ppc_google_brand_189midweek . I luckily have a gift certificate to this beautiful establishment that we will be using. I will also treat myself to a new dress.

You should also celebrate your small and big successes. What motivates you? How are you doing????

Until tomorrow...talking about the list of foods that should be on your grocery list and on your menus!

  1. I dont think I could be happier to hear that you're off the artificial sweeteners. That stuff always makes me nervous.

Oh, and since you asked, I'm doing well on my Team Weight Loss Challenge. Down about 1.5 lbs in a week, with Insanity arriving tomorrow. If you ever have a free blog, I would love to hear your perspective on eating the right amounts to lose weight - calories in/deficits/nutrient ratios/ and what to do when your body plateaus. I never know what to do here. Since you've been so successful and a lot of the information on the web is so confusing, I would love to hear your opinion on this topic. Great stuff as always!

  2. Congrats Nicole!! I'm psyched that you got Insanity!! You have to keep me updated on your progress with it! Are you going to start it Monday?

I will definitely talk about calories:) As you know, I'm not a Nutritionist, but I do have thoughts on it of course! :)

  3. I'm so excited that I don't think I can wait until Monday. I'm going to start today since my work challenge officially starts today. If I stick with it, I should complete Insanity on the same day the challenge ends!
